still i chuckle

I chuckle softly

Inwardly amused

My lips gently curved

Amused by the dawn’s arrival

Unfolding in slivers of light

I chuckle at the birds’ morning chorus

Their songs loud and piercing

I chuckle at life’s teachings

Difficult to fully grasp

My laughter continues silently

Yet tears slip away

Each with its own story

Known only to me

Still I chuckle

Reflecting on days past

On embraces missed

With the day’s awakening

My laughter persists
