Wied il-Mielaħ and the Salt Pans of Gozo

Along the northern coast of Gozo, the landscape opens toward the Mediterranean in a quiet display of stone, sea, and sky. The limestone cliffs rise sharply from the water, their surfaces shaped by centuries of wind and waves.

At Wied il-Mielaħ, a natural limestone arch frames the horizon. Weathered and rugged, it stands as a reminder of the slow and patient work of nature.

Further along the coast, the scenery changes. The historic salt pans of Xwejni form a calm geometric pattern carved into the rock. For generations these shallow pools have been used to harvest sea salt, their surfaces reflecting the shifting sky above.

Together, the arch and the salt pans reveal a quieter side of Gozo — a coastline where natural beauty, tradition, and stillness exist side by side.
